United Way website opens new doors for residents

The United Way of Cape May County knows it takes a whole community to make our community a great place to live, and they are counting on an updated website to help bring that community closer together.

Women’s golf outing supports local charities

What’s half as long and twice as fun as a day on the golf course? Links for Life - a nine-hole women’s golf “scramble” on Sunday, June 1, is great way to improve your swing, while helping others through the United Way of Cape May County’s First Call for Help and Contact Cape-Atlantic. While some golf outings can be intimidating, the focus of this annual event, held at Heritage Links Golf Course, 1375 Route 9, Palermo (map), is fun. Read more…

Curves does heavy lifting for United Way food pantry

Curves clients and staff did some heavy lifting in March with a food drive that netted almost 800 pounds in non-perishable food items for the United Way of Cape May County’s food pantry. Curves Marketing Director, Barbara Mehl; Trainer, Terry Harmon; and Manager, Judy Bickel gave United Way Executive Director, Suzanne Nardi a tour of the new Curve’s Facility, at 1 West Shell Bay Road (at Route 9), Court House, before helping to load dozens of grocery bags into a van for delivery. It was good work out for a good cause. “We are a real community of women, Mehl said, and Curve members look forward to the drive every year since it offers a bit of friendly competition and chance to give back to the community. Caring Neighbors from New Life Church

The Caring Neighbors community outreach group of New Life Church in the Villas served up a hot ham dinner with homemade macaroni and cheese and green beans on a cold March afternoon. The group organizes bingo and penny parties at local nursing home and offers help to residents when tragedy strikes. They have served lunch for county residents at United Way headquarters several times this year. Leader Vern Miler says the group’s mission is to show God’s love for others. Read more…

Sturdy Employees share a hot meal at United Way in Wildwood

Nancy Hagan, a United Way board member and Sturdy Savings Bank employee joined a team of colleagues from Sturdy’s Cape May County branches at United Way headquarters this spring. They served up hot lasagna, salad, and dessert, as well as much good cheer. Hagan said it was a great opportunity to see first hand some of the important work United Way does in the county. Glenwood students “cheer” to see the Globetrotters

A special visit from the Harlem Globetrotter’s Moo Moo Evens promised to be the highlight of the week for the fourth and fifth grade students who gathered in Glenwood Avenue Elementary School’s all-purpose room one day in March. It was part of the Globetrotters community outreach program called CHEER, which is intended to motivate kids to live better lives through “cooperation, healthy mind and body, effort, enthusiasm and responsibility.” Read more…
