Curves clients and staff did some heavy lifting in March with a food drive that netted almost 800 pounds in non-perishable food items for the United Way of Cape May County’s food pantry. Curves Marketing Director, Barbara Mehl; Trainer, Terry Harmon; and Manager, Judy Bickel gave United Way Executive Director, Suzanne Nardi a tour of the new Curve’s Facility, at 1 West Shell Bay Road (at Route 9), Court House, before helping to load dozens of grocery bags into a van for delivery. It was good work out for a good cause. “We are a real community of women, Mehl said, and Curve members look forward to the drive every year since it offers a bit of friendly competition and chance to give back to the community.

Trainer, Terry Harmon and Marketing Director, Barbara Mehl, of Curves, on Shellbay Avenue in Court House, helped organize a food drive for Curves members that netted nearly 800 pound of food for the United of Cape May County’s First Call for Help Food Pantry. Mehl says their March food drive effort was so successful because of Curves’ “community of women,” who work out together and work well together.

Members competed throughout the month to see who could bring in the most food per pound, and new members were offered discounts on club memberships for contributing to the effort. The drive also offered an opportunity for club members to learn more about nutrition and menu planning, since each week food was collected according to categories like: healthy staples, menus around the world and “souper” suppers. Prizes were awarded every week and at the end of the month to the top three contributors: Dianne Shinn, of Villas; Bev Larson, of Avalon; and Marian Roberts, of Avalon, who together donated more than 120 pound in groceries.
