United Way website opens new doors for residents

The United Way of Cape May County knows it takes a whole community to make our community a great place to live, and they are counting on an updated website to help bring that community closer together.

“In today’s busy world, it is more important than ever, to give people the information they want, when they need it,” Executive Director, Suzanne Nardi said. “Our new website is the front door to our organization, and now, it is open more than ever to those who need help and to those who want to help.”

Nardi said that upgrading the website with up-to-date information for volunteers, supporters and residents has been a priority for the organization, but the cost of hiring a professional to design and program the site was prohibitive. Volunteers maintained the original site for several years, but to improve web exposure, new technology was needed to present information in a more accessible way.

“We didn’t have the expertise to design the kind of site we needed, and we didn’t have the funds to have it done professionally,” Nardi said. “As is the case with so much of the work that we do, we needed to rely on someone in the community to help.”

The new site was created as a donation to the United Way by Troy Cawley, of North Wildwood, a partner in CAM Web Design.

“When I found out that the United Way needed a new website, I was happy to help out,” Cawley said. “I always knew that the United Way played an important role in helping people, but in designing the site, I learned so much more about what is involved in accomplishing that goal.”

Improvements to the site include web design features that make it easier for United Way staff to update the site with news, events and information, presented in a user-friendly way. The site - uwcmc.org - now serves as a clearinghouse for information on the dozens of agencies that work in concert with the United Way to help residents in need and as a first point of contact for potential volunteers and contributors.

“We are so excited about the website,” Nardi said. “It is a fantastic tool for bringing people together.”
