Sports journalist, Gregg Murphy, of CN8’s Out of Bounds, has won multiple Emmy awards for his coverage of the controversial figures, rivalries, agonies and triumphs in some of the countries best sports teams. But for the first time on Sunday, Aug. 10, he will come to Wildwood to host a sports event that will bring hundreds of “highly trained’ celebrity athletes and their cheering fans to Mariners’ Landing Water Park—the Rubber Ducky Regatta.

The huge community event draws ducky fans from far and wide to watch the Rubber Ducks race around to the Lazy River in a high-stakes race to the finish line. Those who cross the finish line first win great prizes for their sponsors, and Murphy will be there to congratulate the winners.

The ducky race is a much-anticipated, annual tradition, but this year’s event promises to be the best ever. For the first time, the Rocktologists, a rockin’ band of local doctors, will be entertaining the crowd with a beachfront concert. Plus, ducky sponsors can grab a free hot dog dinner while they wait for the event to start, and Starbucks of Rio Grande is again providing volunteers and complimentary beverages to keep the crowd hydrated and caffeinated so they can cheer their ducks to victory.

And it’s not too late to get in on the fun! Sponsoring a duck is easy and inexpensive. For $5, ducky sponsors get to choose a souvenir celebrity duck to take home and a chance to win hundreds of prizes from local businesses. Plus their ducky sponsorship form entitles them to discounts and giveaways on all the fun Wildwood has to offer. It’s an affordable evening out for the whole family.

The race grounds open at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, and the ducks enter the water at 7:30 p.m.
